YouTube Tests New Live Streaming Platform

You’ve watched countless videos of adorable puppies, cute kitties, and all other things that make you go “Awwww…”  Or perhaps video bloopers of people enduring things gone wrong that make you realize perhaps you didn’t have such a bad day after all.  Now YouTube is venturing further into a new avenue…a live streaming platform, according to their official blog.

Today and tomorrow, the site is starting what’s being called a “new chapter” of YouTube live streaming.  Beginning at 8:00 a.m. PT, the company was to start a limited trial of a new type of live streaming platform in conjunction with four of their partners: Howcast, Next New Networks, Rocketboom and Young Hollywood.

The platform will integrate live streaming straight into YouTube channels; and best of all, broadcasters merely need only a webcam or an external USB/FireWire camera.

Included in the trial is a “Live Comments” module which will give users the chance to engage with the broadcaster as well as the YouTube community at large.  As it is a trial, it will only be available today and tomorrow and then once YouTube gets a chance to review how successful (or unsuccessful) the trial was, they will then roll it out broadly to their worldwide partners.
