Boinx Software’s iStopMotion is a great tool for creating stop motion movies using a camera connected directly to your Mac. This tool got much better today, however, with update 2.5. The update adds enhanced support for Canon cameras, better iMovie export options, tilt shift filter, and even color correction.
Boinx moved to a new QuickTime capture system for getting video from the camera, this means that iStopMotion can now work with multiple video cameras at the same time. This also means that if you have Final Cut Studio or Logic Studio installed on your Mac, you can use HDV cameras to capture full HD footage. iStopMotion will now work with recent Canon DSLR camera models. You can see all the compatible cameras on the iStopMotion website.
The Tilt Shift filter lets you make the scenery your camera captures look miniature. This is a popular tool when creating time-lapsed footage. With the new color correction filter, you can now easily change tint, brightness and contrast of images to correct lighting.
Boinx has also updated the way iStopMotion exports to iMovie. You can now do a one-click transfer of clips into iMovie ’08 or newer.
You can read more about the updates on the Boinx Software website where you can also download a trial of the application if this functionality peaks your interest. If you have already purchased iStopMotion, you are able to upgrade to the new 2.5 version, assuming you have a valid iStopMotion 2 license. Otherwise, iStopMotion is available from Boinx Software for (home license), (express license), or 9 (pro license).
