We’ll admit, we’re jonesin’ to get our hands on the new Apple TV and begin streaming a little content. Sure, we love our Macs plenty around here, but the desk chair isn’t really designed for kicking back and relaxing while watching The Godfather Trilogy or the extended version of The Lord of the Rings. When reports surfaced showing dollar withdrawals from people’s bank accounts, we got excited.
But there’s been a bit of a snag, it seems. Apple TV was set to drop “four weeks” after its announcement which would put right about now in the sweet zone. However, it seems that even though many people have been reporting the withdrawals as early as Wednesday, there’s been a bit of a hold up. What exactly? For that, we turn to AppleInsider.
Apparently Apple has begun emailing people who ordered upgraded shipping that there might be a problem with that expedited process. The email is quoted as saying: “Our records indicate that when you placed your order you paid for upgraded shipping. Due to a delay, we may have not been able to meet our delivery commitment.”
Note that this doesn’t claim that Apple TV itself will be delayed, just that the earliest shipment may not be feasible. It’s still conceivable Apple will meet its four week delivery target. The Apple site posts two shipping options, Standard (which is free) and 2-3 days for . We’re not entirely certain what the time turnaround is on Standard Shipping, but with a weight of half a pound it can’t be much more than 7-10 days.
Whether or not this means as little as a five day delay in Apple TV or longer we can’t say for certain. While Apple did begin debiting people’s accounts for the cost of the device, there are no reports of those selecting free shipping getting any emails alerting them to a delay. So what’s the hold up, Cupertino?
How long must we wait?
